Bitter Words
Bitter Words
We often learn by listening
To other points of view
And others learn from listening to ours
But there are consequences
When it’s venom that we spew
For ugly words possess such ugly powers
We would all be better served
To rise above it all
And set examples that our children need
Let’s address our differences
Yet show respect for all
Our children learn by witnessing our deeds

The Coin
The Coin
I struck a mark upon a coin
When just a lad of ten
And through the years to my surprise
It turned up now and then
But never did I cling to it
I spent it every time
And when I least expected it
Again that coin I’d find
Some have found it curious
I paid it little mind
But it was not coincidence
That brought it back each time
That coin I marked so long ago
Can never travel far
Such coins are not mere currency
They’re part of who we are
